Seek Truth.
“Now the Spirit clearly says that in the last times some will depart from the faith and pay attention to seducing spirits and doctrines of devils, 2speaking lies in hypocrisy, having their consciences seared with a hot iron,” 1st Timothy 4:1-2
Fight the good fight. Guard that which has been entrusted to you. These are words that Paul charges Timothy with. These are active and many would say aggressive terminology. Yet this is a constant theme throughout all of scripture and yet not a constant theme in churches today. Church leadership is a crucial part of the effectiveness and survival of the church today and there are many who do not contend for the faith. They either back down on tough topics or only stand for what benefits them. We are to be passionate and zealous for keeping the purity of the teaching within the Church. God has given us every good thing to enjoy as he created it, but it still isn’t about us. Yet many churches teach about what we can get rather than what we can give for the gospel.
False teachers according to Paul are men who teach anything that creates doctrines outside of what is given clearly by God. Loose philosophy is the birthplace of false teaching. Men are carried away by myths, legends, and speculations, that only carry worthless thoughts. Teach and live in what is explicitly taught in scripture. There is Christian liberty but there is no grey area in God’s word. Don’t replace the foundation of explicit truth with form-fitting philosophy. The denomination explosion of today’s church is due to many misunderstanding the truth and leading people into philosophical explorations rather than biblical exposition. Seek the Word for what God has said. Build your life on the word.
