Comfort in the Calling.
“So do not be ashamed of the testimony of our Lord, nor of me, His prisoner. But share in the sufferings of the gospel by the power of God, 9who has saved us and called us with a holy calling, not by our works, but by His own purpose and grace, which was given us in Christ Jesus before the world began, 10but is now revealed by the appearing of our Savior, Jesus Christ, who has abolished death and has brought life and immortality to light through the gospel” - 2nd Timothy 1:8-10
Paul writes here of a truth that is both challenging and comforting. By the gospel, God has called us according to His will before time began. This is challenging because this calls us to live a life worthy of this calling. We must live out the gospel. This demands we live according to a standard of devotion and holiness. With this we have been given the Spirit of God, in the midst, to help us. Our love for God is rooted in God himself. It is by His hand that we love Him. We love because He first loved us.
This is comforting because before we ever took our first breath, God called us according to His purpose. If before time began God called for a purpose, this means He then created according to a purpose. Which means God created us to do exactly what He has called us to. It’s not about us but about Him. We may be involved and used, but it is about His glory. Take comfort today knowing that God has called you, and created you for a purpose.
