Don’t let Pride Keep you From Seeing Christ.
“Jesus answered them, “My teaching is not Mine, but His who sent Me. 17If any man desires to do His will, he shall know whether the teaching is from God or whether I speak on My own authority. 18He who speaks on his own authority seeks his own glory. But He who seeks the glory of Him who sent Him is true, and no unrighteousness is in Him.” - John 7:16-18 (MEV)
Jesus addresses those who question His teaching in the temple. He makes a point to show that He is only speaking the Father’s will. Christ, not yet being glorified, speaks a grand mystery. This mystery being revealed in the Trinity. Jesus is pointing to God’s glory. He is speaking these grand teachings in the temple without an official title showing that he studied. No official merit or credibility in their eyes. We can conclude that Jesus was most likely teaching the truth of the Old Testament and the prophets. He was revealing Himself through the scriptures. This is so profound because all of scripture is revealing Christ and His Glory.
The Jews were threatened by this teaching because if Jesus was right, revealing that he was the fulfillment of the scriptures, then they would be wrong. They were more concerned with keeping their forefathers’ traditions than they were with Christ revealing Himself before their eyes. Do not allow your pride of being right to keep you from seeing Jesus clearly in front of you. Seek God’s glory and not your own. God’s glory is worth more than any earthy reputation, secret sin, or pride. Let His Holy Spirit work within you to teach you. To illuminate the scriptures to see Christ glorified through it all.
