Breakdown: Titus 1:1.

“Paul, a servant of God and an apostle of Jesus Christ, according to the faith of God’s elect and the knowledge of the truth which leads to godliness,” - Titus 1:1

Paul opens his letter to Titus with so much depth and truth right out of the gate. So much wisdom in the Christian life.

  • Servant of God” To be a servant is no small thing. It is entirely life-long obedience to the will of God. When the master speaks, you listen. You do what He says when He says it. You go where He tells you when He tells you. A servant is humble. They seek to honor their master.

  • According to the faith” Striving to stay pure and not defiled. For the faith to be completely whole. To serve for the purity of the faith.

  • God’s Elect” God’s chosen people to whom he has effectually called to himself since before the very foundations of the word.

  • “The knowledge of the truth” Those in Christ will never be satisfied with shallow knowledge of truth. This doesn’t mean every believer should have a seminary degree. But every elect believer will grow in sound doctrine, understanding of Christology (The person, work, and role of Christ), and the fullness of scripture.Out with the shallow. Pursue the depths.

  • Which leads to godliness” God’s elect will grow in their practical application of sanctification while they grow in their knowledge of the faith.
