The Power of The Gospel.

“For I am not ashamed of the gospel of Christ. For it is the power of God for salvation to everyone who believes, to the Jew first, and also to the Greek. 17For in it the righteousness of God is revealed from faith to faith. As it is written, “The just shall live by faith.” - Romans 1:16-17 (MEV)

The Gospel is the power for salvation. According to elsewhere in scripture, it is God’s word that transforms us by His Spirit. Christ prays in John 17:17 “sanctify them in truth. Your word is truth.” Giving us a look at the transformational power found in what is God’s word. By His Holy Spirit, the word transforms us. Romans 12:12 says “be transformed by the renewal of your mind.” It is in God’s word that we are completely changed by the renewal of our mind. I would go deeper as scripture suggests, the renewal of our souls. The very essence of our being, renewed in Christ and The Gospel. Revealing a key aspect of our continual sanctification, as it is written “The righteous shall live by faith.”

It is this faith that radically shapes and changes us. For God’s righteousness is reveled from faith for faith. We should submit ourselves to faith in Christ, and not to the regulations of the Christian life. For one contains the power of the Gospel and the other the appearance but lacking the power. The Spirit is true. His work is true. May we never fall so far as to justify the appearance of faith while forsaking genuine faith. True faith produces the righteousness of God in our lives. That our joy may be complete. The other leaves us striving with a lean and bitter soul.
