Reap and Sow.

“You will reap what you sow.” We have all heard this. We all probably have also heard a pastor preach a sermon or two about it. You will reap what you sow. If you sow seeds of bitterness you will reap hatred. If you sow seeds of anger you will reap anger, if you sow seeds of impurity then you will reap impurity. If you sow seeds of drunkenness you will reap drunkenness. Vice Versa, if you sow seeds of joy you will reap joy; if you sow seeds of love you will reap love. If you sow seeds of kindness you will reap kindness. At times I feel we forget this. We feel as though we can do what we want and we will reap nothing. The truth is we seriously reap whatever we sow seeds of. Another angle of this is, if you’re going through a hard time, sow seeds of joyfulness because you will reap joyfulness. Sow seeds knowing whatever you sow, you reap.

But this isn’t what I want to talk about today; I want to talk to you about 2 Corinthians 9:6. “The point is this: whoever sows sparingly will also reap sparingly, and whoever sows bountifully will also reap bountifully.” I want to talk about how much you reap when you sow. to me this is just as important as what you sow. If you want reap a huge harvest then you must sow a harvest. Some examples I think of is, if you play an instrument and you only spent 5 minutes every other day, how good will you be?? Honestly not very good. The truth is you wouldn’t be any good because you haven’t put in enough time to get better. Everything takes time. If you would spend 4 hours a day practicing you instrument, would you instantly be amazing?? No, but overtime you would become amazing, why? Because you put in time and effort into your instrument. Therefor you will become great because you spent countless hours working and pushing to break your limitations, you’d reap what you’d sowed.

Another example is, let’s say you are an owner of a store. If you put zero money or effort into the store would it be successful? No, why? Because you haven’t invested anything into it. Now let’s say you spent tons of money for advertisements and worked to keep the inside of the store clean and nice, keeping everything up to date and fresh. Would it become successful? Yes, Why? Because you invested tons of money and energy into it. You’d reap what you had sowed. Paul says here in 2 Corinthians 9:6 that those who sow a lot will reap a lot and those who sow a little will reap little. Let’s say I’m a farmer, if I spent half a day and plowed a quarter of my field and then sowed seeds in a quarter of that quarter, how much will I get?? I would only be able to reap that quarter of the quarter. Now if I spent day and night and plowed every inch of my field and then sowed seeds in every inch of my field, how much would I get?? Well I would be able to reap a full harvest and my barns would be overflowing.

The same concept applies to everything we do in life. So what if I only spent about 5 minutes every other day talking to my girlfriend would that be a good relationship? No it wouldn’t be at all. So if we only spend 5 minutes every other day with God how would our relationship be? It would be extremely lacking. Now if we spent hours with Jesus, how would our relationship be?? Pretty great. Or if I have a goal and dream and I spent no time working towards achieving that goal, would I reach it? Nope. Now what if I spent countless hours working and pouring everything I have into reaching that goal and dream, would I reach it? Yes, because I put forth effort towards reaching my goal. My point of what I am saying is understand that whatever it is in life, if you sow a lot into it you will reap a lot. You will reap as much as you sow. This might just be me talking but I’d say if you want to reap a harvest, how about sowing and planting a harvest.
